DCI's Annual Users Conference makes a splash in KC
October 8, 1998 -- The theme for the fifth annual DCI user conference turned out to be "Let it rain".
The conference took place in Kansas City after being held the first four years in Hutchinson, KS. The conference ran from October 4 through 6 and was colored by excessive rain.
The golf tournament at Deer Creek portion of the conference was canceled on Sunday because of rain. Later that night most of the 150 people in attendance watched as floodwaters crept up into the parking lot next to the exhibition area and flooded several cars at the conference.
On Monday, once the waters subsided and the conference started, keynote speaker, Janet Rush, of the Rush Company got everyone motivated with her speech titled "Converting change into opportunity." She had everyone talking about her for the rest of the conference.
She said to be successful in a world of change you must be the originator of change, which will make you the leader, whereas being on the other side you will be a follower and pushed into a situation at an uncomfortable pace."
Steve Armstrong from the Federal Reserve Bank along with Mel McKay of DCI had 3 well attended sessions concerning Year 2000 Issues.
Also popular were the Internet sessions conducted by Lance Lightner and Rob Ferguson of ENTEQ Solutions.
Other topics included: technology planning, Internet banking, building successful relationships between the board and CEO, Benefits of check imaging, video conferencing, and LAN/WAN network technology.
Some of the DCI product discussions were: ATM and debit cards, DCI's client/server, deposits, loans, DCI's ReportTrac and DCI's INfoSIGHT.
At the conference lunch on Tuesday President and CEO of DCI, A.J. Krail announced that he was replacing the vehicles of the Bankers and DCI employees who lost cars in the flood. He then proceeded to hand out toy cars to those people affected by the flood.
