November 3, 2003
HUTCHINSON,
KS., November 3, 2003 – DCI (Data Center Inc.), announced today the death
of President and CEO A.J. Krail at the age of 60 in Hutchinson, KS. John
Jones, DCI Executive Vice President and acting CEO, said "I've known
A.J. for more than 25 years. He was my best friend, and he will be missed a
great deal by everyone here at DCI." Krail
worked in bank technology development for over 40 years at several national
companies like BISYS, Newtrend, Hibernia and Unisys, until being sought out
as
DCI's CEO in 1995.
As
only the third CEO in DCI's 40-year history, Krail lead the company with
what some call a visionary fervor to its most successful and profitable
years ever, and established DCI as a more progressive contender in the core
processing and bank technology industry. "A.J.
was a true visionary," said Mark Harris, Marketing Director. "We
definitely would not be where we are today without his determination. He
truly believed DCI could be a stronger and more innovative leader in the
industry, even if it meant going through some significant changes and
challenges. He was right, and he proved all his critics wrong. And I know he
had a lot of faith and confidence in the people here. I really believe it is
no stretch to say that DCI, our employees, our customers, and the industry
are all stronger and smarter because of his contributions." J.V.
Lentell, Chairman at DCI, said of Krail, "He was absolutely a hands-on
leader. In the eight years he was here he accomplished amazing things." DCI's
success is underscored by Krail's almost immediate enhancements to the
company's business models, organizational structure, and products.
Particularly important was his development of the company's iCore
client/server banking system as an answer to mainframe systems and what he
believed to be the future of bank technology.
"At
the time, A.J. was considered by some to be too unconventional," said
Harris, "But he always stuck to his vision and pushed DCI ahead to a
new competitive level, using our strengths as a company to strengthen our
products and give us a progressive position in the industry. He opened DCI
to much wider and diverse markets, coast to coast, and made people stand up
and take notice of how DCI was changing things. And I think all of it is
attributed to his vision and his full commitment to it." Added
Jones, "A.J. was very innovative in his planning…he was determined,
focused and very successful at everything he did. We intend to carry on in a
way he would be proud of." The
company also thanked Mr. Krail's many friends, business partners and
associates for their support. A memorial service will be held in Hutchinson,
Kansas on Friday, November 7th. Krail is survived by his wife, 6 children and
17 grandchildren. About
