Backroom services continues to grow

Many changes have taken place in the backroom services area during the past few months. Beverly Deal relocated to our Springfield office to serve as general manager for the item processing and backroom services facility.

Beverly has been very busy in her new position with the tremendous growth in business at the Springfield facility. In 1997, nine new bank customers joined DCI in Springfield for backroom or item processing services.

In October, Concha Duarte, of Hutchinson, was promoted to vice president of item processing, imaging and backroom services for the Hutchinson facility. Concha has worked for DCI for 18 years, most recently as EDP auditor.

During the first few months in her new position, Concha has focused on learning the work flow of each shift and managing staff issues.

"I have been very impressed with the dedication of the staff— many of whom have been with the department for more than 10 years. Their experience and knowledge will be very valuable to us during our transition to imaging on a larger scale," states Duarte.

DCI’s backroom mail area experienced record volume in January, with more than 350,000 pieces of mail for 47 different banks sorted and mailed out of the facility.

"Even through the stacks of paper, forms and envelopes, we were able to meet daily deadlines," states Duarte. "The volume of mail increased by nearly 84%, but we maintained the high level of accuracy our banks depend on."

Upcoming plans for the item processing department include upgrading systems at the Hutchinson and Wichita facilities to meet Year 2000 compatibility.

On the imaging front, banks who utilize our imaging services will soon have remote access to imaged checks through the use of remote work stations and high speed ISDN lines.
